Sidebar Update

I got a site feed linked up there under the Menu heading. An atom feed.
Also added a couple more links to some other blogs under the Take Out heading.
I'll go more into detail about the added links (Neighbour, Goose) in a bit.
I gotta shuffle them around and rename a couple.
But either way, enjoy.

Olympic Bronze!

We got a Bronze medal!
Rock!
We got the Bronze in Women's 3000m Speed Skating.
Wooo!
Winnipeg's own (my hometown), Cindy Klassen won it for us.

Last winter Olympics [official], she won a bronze as well.
Cindy is the world record holder and the reigning world champ. But in good Canadian fashion, we like to let other people have the glory sometimes and so we let them win Olympic events.
Once every 4 years is enough.

Unless it is a new event, then we crush the competition (politely) and show them how much fun this new Olympic event is. (see trampoline -> Syndey 2000; trampoline ->Athens 2004 [official]) - yah, I know it doesn't hold up. But after the first few times, we drop off the podium. Shuddyup.
Le sigh.
Anyways.

Congrats Cindy Klassen!

Olympic Gold!

We got a Gold medal!
Rock!
We got the Gold in Women's Moguls.
Wooo!
Jennifer Heil won it for us. Last winter Olympics she finished just off the podium, so it nice to see she made it this time.
Congrats Jennifer Heil!

Article Linkage!

Did I mention that I like venti mocha fraps?

Anyways, here is some interesting articles about patch fixes by microsoft and mozilla (the firefox folks).
Here's a story about the little guy taking on the big guy (from tsn). The shorter version (from espn).
The victors really being the amateur hockey leagues and etc.
Oddly enough, I'm reading up on hockey news and other hockey related stories on ESPN.
Crazy google web clips.

I'd write more, but all that tasty goodness(mmmm, mocha), has made me hungry.
Oddly enough, that link to the mocha frap, is to the Japanese site (in english!). The North American site didn't have anything on it.
Weird.

The Blech!-ness Continues

Luckily for me, (if you call being sick lucky), when I get sick, it is always the same thing. Thus I don't have to expect anything crazy. I always end up with a head cold.
  • A gross, phlemy throat
  • stuffy-ish nose, with a bit of runny
  • crazy-sinus-craziness
  • headaches
  • ear aches
  • hyper sensitive to noise - usually the high end. damn electronics!
The only difference between my colds is the severity of the cold and the direction that the cold will take. The cold will either start at the top, with headaches and such, and work it's way down
OR, the cold will start at the bottom with the throat and work it's way up.
This one started with the throat.

Now I get to drink lots of chai.

Venti = Good...i

Yah, yah, I know.
shuddyup.

I was saying to some people how I'm gonna do this, now I'll tell those same people again on my blog. They are after all the only people that read this sumamabitch.
Thingy at top with very past due post right underneath.
Thingy will have a link to very past due post so you can catch up to the current day and stuff or something.
Yep, that is my explanation.

I mean it this time, unlike those other times that I said this.
Seriously.
I mean it.
Honest!
Scouts honour or ....yah. Ask a scout. They most likely will honour that statment or anything for that matter. With how they are scared of being raped. Not by me specifically, but the world in general.
Yes, the world.

So remember that apartment that I moved into and didn't tell you about?
Yah, well, I moved out of there.
Went back home, I did. Only for 2 (two) months. Then the big move out west.
Getting spurs and everything. Not THE spurs, but a set of spurs.
ka-ching, ka-ching.
ka-ching, ka-ching.
^[that's the spurs on my shoes, not the ka$h register of the kkk.]

So I kinda loopy. Haven't really slept all that much in the last week or so. My breakfast today consisted of a venti mocha frappacino from starbucks. By breakfast, I mean an hour ago. Now instead of both of my eyes wanting to close and put me into a deep sleep, I have only 1 (one) eye scheming against me in that fashion.
The lack of sleep has caused me to go out in search of caffeine. Thus the starbucks cravings.
Many caramel machiatos later. (triple shot, extra caramel, extra vanilla).
Grande and up, of course, of course.
I am now still tired, but quite able to mess with peoples minds. The logic behind my sentences is sooo skewed.
It's great.
Ask around.

Got this Brugo Mug.
Been testing it out for Cinamon Stick. I guess it keeps it warm for awhile, but I'm not sure yet. Everytime I get a drink, it is never hot enough. I even asked for it to be extra hot once.
Don't know about the sips either. Just a tad bit small for me. But then again, I ain't a coffee drinker. Haven't tested it out with cold drinks yet. Should go out and do that.
Mocha Frap would be tasty right about now,
Mmmmmm, Mocha Frap.
Venti......soooo tasty.

In other news, I'm discovered Pink Floyd.
Not that I didn't know of them before, just that now I have a much better appreciation of there stuff. Really good for my state of mind. Just get lost in the music.
You ever listen to the Dark Side of Oz?
Think I'm gonna have to burn me a dvd with Dark Side of Moon as one of the audio tracks. Would make things oh so much easier.

define sarcasm.....

as given br Prof. P:

Prof:
Sarcasm: From the the Poly-Malay words Sars Chasm, meaning the Chasm between areas where SARS can be and cannot be found. Due to degradation over languages and time the words Sars Chasm, slowly has become blended together, and in todays English is now one word, with a different meaning, yet still some what related to the old connotation.
Today sarcasm, means laughing at anothers misfortune. The history to this meaning dates back to the SARS crisis in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 2003. The city officials at the time (one possible being Cardinal Offishal, who was believed to be the head official or offishal) decided to boost the sinking image of the city by hiring late nite American funny man Conan O'Brien.
As was his typical routine for his late nite act he would open with a monologue wit subpar material. Not funny by most standards. But laughter was usually reached due to the idiocy that O'Brien would actually think that it would incite genuine laugh. During his Toronto shows, he did not change his routine, and many people laughed at the expense of Mr. O'Brien. Some laughed so hard that they were hospitalized. And since SARS was mainly found in medical areas in the city some people from this shows contracted SARS and became ill. Hence the explanation from the old meaning to todays.
Sarcasm: laughing at Conan O'Brien attempting a lame joke, and ending up in a hospital with SARS. From laughing in a place that had no SARS and now being in a place that has SARS.
there you go. I didn't spell check it.
Sent at 1:50 AM on Friday

Panzer The Non-German Variety.

I got Panzer Dragooon Orta for the Xbox last week or so.
Finally got around to playing it. Good game so far.
Got my ass handed to me by the first boss tho.
Tried it again this morning and made it a little ways to level 2. Or episodes, whatever it's called.

Had a Mocha Frappacino today. About an hour ago.
Wasn't very good tho.
The chick did a bad job making it. Doesn't have much flavour and for some reason the 'essence' of the drink is settling on the bottom like mad crazy quick.
Just added some of my friends caramel macchiato to my mocha frappacino.
Looks a little better.
Tastes more like an iced coffee beverage now.
No longer a frappicino, but an iced drink it becomes!
How do you fuck up a drink at Starbucks?
That's all you do there. Make drinks.
Wtf!
Honestly now. At least she didn't put whipped cream on my drink.
Bastards.

Yah, I'm a little wired.
Only reason I'm even posting this is because watching my fingers as the move across the keyboard is kinda tripping me out.
Yay for coffee!

It's Official!

I have no soul.

I was leaving Safeway. Was getting a hot bbq beef sammich (it's cold outside!)
A guy had just exited, so the 1st door was open.
Got to the 2nd door just as it was closing.
AND
it continues to close, almost walked into the sucka.
I'm like: "wtf!?"
Look around, step back a little. A step to the side.
The door opens and I walk thru.
Think it only opened cuz a guy was walking into the store thru the door right next to the exit.

So here you go, I have no soul.
Or at least one not compatible at safeway.

People Need To Be Shot

Get to my doc, about 10 min late. Missed my bus you see.
Get there, receptionist is like: Well you're late, so you are gonna have to wait until all these people are thru.
M: How long is the wait?
R: I don't know.
Cow.
Even tho, I know that if I was on time , I still would have had to wait for all these geezers to go.
You'd think I was in Dr. Kevorkians' office or something. With all the stench of geezer surrounding me
So about an hour and some later, I get called in.

Doc: So what can I do for you?
Moi: You told me to come back!
D: AH right, a follow up. Jump on the scale.
Which I do.
M: I'm the same as last time. I didn't gain any weight.
D: Thats good. People get fat and then they have trouble getting rid of it.
M: You told me to gain weight!
He then takes my blood pressure, which is good he says.
Doc: AT least you stopped drinking. Not getting drunk and all that.
M: No I didn't! I actually drank more between these last visits than the ones before these ones.
Some other nonsense and then we are done.
D: see you in 2 mths.

This all took about under 10min.
Bah.

Later that night: <--(said in 60's Batman voice over)
[cue Batman segue music]
So it's about 8pm. I call up Best Buy.
M: Do you guys have any copies of Layer Cake?
BB: Let me check
He puts me on hold. A few seconds later, 'click'
Fuckers!
Like I need another reason to hate Best Buy.
A&B Sound doesn't have any copies, but Future Shop does. So I decide to go there and I can check out best buy, since they are right next to each other.
I run thru the mall (Polo) and check out HMV and CD Plus. At CD Plus I pick up Old Boy.
Great Movie. Awesome revenge flick.
Run over to best buy. Ask the guy
M:Do you guys have any copies of Layer Cake and Batman Begins: Deluxe Edition?
BB: Lemme check.
So he goes to the computer and looks it up. 3 copies of LC and 6 of BB:DE.
We go to the wall of dvds. Nothing. Checks the sections that they could be in. Nothing.
BB: One second, I'll go check in the back.
Now it's about 10 to nine. I see snatches of him now and again. He keeps saying hold on.
Comes back to me.
BB: Sorry. We can't seem to find either of those movies. The computer says we have them, but they aren't out front and we don't have any in the back. The other guy that was helping me look says he saw only one copy of Layer Cake.
M: But I guess that one is no longer there.
BB: Yah, sorry.
M: Guess it's too late to go to future shop now.
BB: Is it 9 already.
M: Yah.

Seems I do need another reason.
Bastards.

Maybe I should move to Florida......

Then again, maybe I should hope for more hurricanes. I've always wanted to learn Greek.
Idiots.

Arrr! Maties. What Happened To Them Thar Action Movies?

This was originally supposed to be posted on the 19th of September

So I was watching Predator on tv the other day.
good action movie.
It sucked me right in. Captivating it is. More so than Sneakers.
Weeell, maybe not. But on the same level at least.
Which brings me to this question: What happened to the action movie?......Arrr!

Part of the blame goes to Bruce Willis and the rest of the cast and crew of Die Hard. Actually, it goes to the people who rip that movie off. Ever since then, all action movies have an everyday joe who has to have emotions and problems.
Fuck that.
Aye, they should walk the plank.

Predator is a classic action movie.
If you don't like, then my friend, you don't like action movies.
It has Ahnold, at his best. Seriously, I think his accent got worse as his career went on.
It has a bunch of 2 dimensional characters that are expendable.
It has Apollo Creed! And it has a kick ass villain.
There be explosions and shoot outs and some nifty effects.
More importantly it doesn't have a bloated over complicated story. No stupid twists and turns. No stupid surprises. And no hero who is bogged down by emotional problems that are only there to give the story a cheap ass heart and to make him relateable to the audience.

How does it make Bond more realatable when he feels sad that he had to kill another bond girl. Oh yah, that happens to me all the time when I go abroad and do a broad. They always end up being on the villains side. Damn those villains for making me kill this girl whom I just slept with.
Now unless you have a shit load of stds, as we can safely assume that bond has, unless he is genetically engineered by Q to be immune to such things, I don't think people have to worry to much about having some random girl dying on them.

I remember when Bad Boys II came out.
People didn't like it that much.
Why? I have no idea. The only movie that entertained me more that entire year was Pirates of the Carribean.
That's some pretty esteemed company, I must say.
It did what it was supposed to. It was everything the first movie was, except more.
More action, more comedy, more chases and more explosions.
Michael Bay knows how to blow shit up.
It was formulaic like you wouldn't believe, but that's fine. It helps the movie more than hurts it.
I went to the bathroom during the movie, something I rarely ever do. Once a movie starts, there is no leaving until it ends.
In this case though, I knew that nothing important was going to happen and that I had some time and right I was.
Only problem with the movie I had was that some of the shots in the movie were only there because they were in the first one.
Bah.

If you haven't noticed, there be some talk of the sea throughout this piece. If you be asking yourself, why?, then I got an answer for ye.
I originally started this on "Talk Like A Pirate Day!"
Why is there such a thing, you ask.
Well, ummm, because. That's why.
If you would also like to participate in such a glorious event, then you might want to brush up on you pirate speak.
And don't worry, we haven't forgotten you crazy Germans.

Thanksgiving Weekend

So this wknd was Thanksgiving Weekend.
A time to eat, spend time with friends and family and eat.
Eating is good.
Many things that we can all be thankful for.
Health, wealth or food, maybe even the simple fact that you are breathing.
Some things are close by, others far away. Some seem far, yet are quite possibly the closest things to you. You just haven't realised it yet.

Friends.
The only reason that I am sane as I am. Also the reason I am as insane as I am.
I have a bunch of things that I am thankful for.
Some of which I won't mention here, mostly because they be mine and I am wanting to keep it that way.
uh huh, uh huh.
But they know who they are.
I'm thankful for them, so go away world. They are not for you.
*shakes fist
Then there is the whats.
They don't know what they are, or do they...
Either way, I'm thankful for them as well.

But here is something that I am thankful for that I will share with you. Soemthing that happened on Thanksgiving Sunday oddly enough.

Flightplan

I just saw Flightplan.
What, the fuck!
The movie blows.
The first hour or so is boring as all get out.
Then it kinda almost gets interesting........if it wasn't so stupid.
This is one of those movies where the problem could be solved with a kick in the head.
Well, almost. The movie isn't what you think it is.
Well it is, but then it isn't.
Lemme just say the flick gets good (almost) once they get to Canada.
That's right. Canada.
Of course, why the FBI would be in Goose Bay, instead of the RCMP, I don't know.
Don't even get me started on where the fuck a squad came from. I'd say watch the movie and you'll understand, but that means you'd have to watch the movie and I wouldn't want to put that burden on you.
Supposedly there was some controvery over some nonsense.
.
Jodie Foster was annoying. Annoying as hell.
Which I guess means that she is a good actress, cause I wanted to kick her head in so many times. Peter Sarsgaard, looked sleepy or shifty eyed even.
Sean Bean was his good intense usual self. Erika Christensen was pointless and the sexy stu was like a sexy version of Sarah Jessica Parker. Except with much better lips.
Oh my.
The sexy stu. So lovely, those lips. Just lovely, quite lovely.
Kate Beahan. Needs more close ups.

SJP comes up, I think only because 1 of the trailers had her in it.
Oh, did I mention that there was 15min of trailers.
Yah, there was.
Jarhead being the only good one. The rest were boring. So much so, that I cannot remember any of them, other than the one with SJP and Craig T Nelson. Oh, it had Rachel McAdams too.
Mmmm, tasty.

Speaking of trailers, here is a good one. (read more about it here)
It is something rare. A good trailer that intrigues you, yet doesn't really give anything away.
Is good I tells ya!

The Deal

Why, hello there!
Long time no see. How have you guys been doing?
Whatcha been up to?
Me?
Not much really. I did have a nasty case of the no-posties
(tm).
Not as bad as some people, but nonetheless.

Here's the deal.
See, no matter how many teachers say that I'm a good writer, (as you can see by that smooth transitition), I'm not going to like writing. The worst part is the starting.
Can't start a paper or a story or a post or anything, really. Not even if my life depended on it.
If something is already there and I can expand on it, then great, but starting from sratch, this I regualarily despise.
Once I get over that bump though, I'm usually fine. Then I can go on and on & on + on.
The other problem is that I cannot write the words down fast enought for my mind. My mind races around like a maniac and if I slow it down too much to write it out, that train of thought is derailed. The train can be put back on the tracks, but if I don't feel the writing bug, forget about it.

Which brings me to why I haven't updated this sucka.
I wasn't in the writing mood. I just couldn't sit in front of a sceen and put my thoughts on it. I couldn't even put my thoughts on paper. Which is how this post orignally started.
The other problem was that my thoughts just didn't translate properly, from deep speak
(tm), into words.
I tried to write but it just wan't happening, Couldn't type for the life of me. The moment I sat down to type something, my mind would just blank.
Writing on paper wansn't any better either.
Random stuff was being put down a litlle but not enough to expand on to make coherent writings. If what you call what I write coherent.
Some bits + pieces were typed up though. Not enought to be posted mind you. But it was something.
So, I decided to take a step back for a little while. Let the urge to write come naturally, not force it.
Lots of shit flying around and I was having trouble sorting it all out.
But now my mind is a little bit more at ease.

So updates should be more forthcoming.
I got some movie review that have been started, which I'll try and get up over the weekend. Also some of those bits + pieces I mentioned, will be expanded on until they are nice chunks and, ahhh, fragments, (thank you thesaurus). So some of them might be slightly out of date. I'm looking at you action movie rant......

So to all those who were wondering where I was, all 3 of you, I am here.
Who would have thought that having a ridiculously early shift at work would be so helpfull.
So there you go.
That's the deal.

The Aristocrats

Sunday(Aug.21st) I went and saw a dirty movie.
A very dirty movie.
An, Oh My God! That mime is pretending to fuck a dog, kinda dirty movie.

It was great.

The Aristocrats.

Simple concept to this flick. Penn (from Penn & Teller) and his comedian friend, take a couple of cameras and ask comedians about a joke. A crap load of comedians. That joke being "The Aristocrats."
It goes like this:

A guy walks into an agents office and says "I've got an act for you"
The agent says "Alright, what do you do?"
The guy the proceeds to do the nastiest, dirtiest, and just plain wrong things. This is where the comic gets to come up with whatever his little mind can conjure up.
The agent, after hearing/seeing this routine asks the guy "What do you call yourselves?"
The guy says" The Aristocrats"

I know, I know. It ain't funny.
On paper anyways, but when you hear the comedians going off, look out!
Now if you've read up on this movie at all, you'd know that Penn has been saying that if you're offended by anything, ever, you shouldn't see this movie.
I agree with that statement.
If you aren't easily offended, then go see this movie.
You learn a little about the process of telling jokes and find out that mimes can be funny.
Some of the best versions of the joke come from female comedians, so you can drag your girl to this as well. I would advise against that, unless she has a wickedly dark sense of humour.

IF that ain't enough to sell you, then lemme just say this:
Bob Saget.
Need I say more, not really.

Now just gotta hold out for the dvd.

If you've been keeping track of this streak of movies, this is review 4 of 6.
1 being Save The Green Planet
2 being Four Brothers.
3 being 40-yr Old Virgin (coming soon)
4 being this

Four Brothers

On theThursday(Aug.18th), following Save The Green Planet, Pslam, Scoop and myself went to see a throwback movie.

That movie was Four Brothers.

Do you like the 70's?
Do you like movies?
Do you like revenge?
Do you like revenge movies from the 70's?
Then my friend this movie for you.

Lemme just get this outta the way first. I loooooooved this flick.

It's a nice revenge flick.
An old lady is gunned down in a robbery in a corner store, thus bringing her four (adopted) children back together. They decide to find the killers themselves.

The movie proper starts out with a car trailing the camera with some 70's tunes playing.
Classic. Sets the mood.
As I said earlier, its a throwback film.
The soundtrack is mostly classics, including 4 Marvin Gaye tracks, and a few new tracks.
I'm trying to think of things that I din't like about this movie, but nothing comes to mind. Took to long to write this it seems. Good excuse to see it again.

This flick hit the spot. It was what I was looking for.
Everybody fit their roles. Nobody stuck out like a sore thumb.
Andre 3000 was good, better than in Be Cool. But that movie suuuucked.
Marky Mark was great as the leader of the group.
Tyrese was smooth as the playa.
The latina chick was smokin'.
The bad guy was evil.
Terence Howard makes a show as a cop that knew the boys from their childhood and he as always grounds the movie in its' reality.
The people that you were supposed to root for, you did .
The people that you were supposed to hate, you did.
When this movie was done, you just wanna go bust some heads.
In a good way.

I'll update this review, once I get my head screwed on properly. Hopefully by next week.

Sleep Deprivation

So I haven't posted in awhile, as you can see. But I got about 4 movie reviews waiting in the wings.
Been having trouble with putting words on the screen.
Mind not functioning smoothly. - more on this later.
Had an interesting wknd. All blended together into one lump due to a lack of sleep. Doesn't help that I wore myself out on top of the not sleeping. Amazing how much you can run around without sleep and proper amounts of food in your system.

What's even more amazing is that I had a wicked game of field hockey. I also had a wicked amount of bruising from said game.
Got smashed in the arch of my left foot 4 or 5 times with the ball. So walking sucks.
Then I got my left thumb busted up twice. So my thumbnail is all bruised up as is my index finger.
Then my left palm is bruised from the butt end of my stick.
Enough injuries to make me bitch (like I need an excuse) but not enough to stop me from hitting up a theatre.

So here's a question for you:

When someone you know has a problem/situation and you are trying to help them out, how selfish can you be in your advice?

Now, I'm not one for being selfish when helping out people and giving advice. I'm known for being quite objective and giving both an outsider and insider point of view.
And dammit, I'm good at it too.
In this case though, the results of the decision at hand kinda effect me as well. Not anywhere as close as it will effect them, not even.
But enough that it changes the relationship that is currently going on.
Problem is that it is not a conscience change. It's just a matter of priorities and things like that.
In this case, I would not be a priority. Pushed to the side I would be. Which would eventually lead to a total lack of communication.
Which is to bad, cause I liked where this one was going or not going as the case would be.

Suggestions? Opinions? Help......?

Save The Green Planet.......Or Is It???

On Monday Scoop and moi went to Cinematheque to check out the Korean film, Save The Green Planet. Or did we?!

My oh my!
What an interesting movie it is. Or is it?!
Save the Green Planet doesn't fall into any single genre. It's a mix of them.
It's part horror, sci-fi, thriller, mystery, comedy, etc.
The movie is about this guy (the guy in the poster) who kidnaps the CEO of a company that he used to work for.
Why you ask?
Because the CEO is an alien.
Or is he?!

As the movie goes on, it jumps from genre to genre easily depending on the info that you were just given.
At one point the guy is torturing the CEO, but is the CEO an alien or a figment of the guys deranged pill popping imagination.
Does the CEO really have telepathic powers that are controlled by his hair?
Who knows?
The movie has some disturbing moments, but it also has some very funny moments.
One of the best sight gags I've seen in awhile. Involving killer bees and a desperate cop with a gun.
Those crazy Koreans. Or are they?!

I can't remember any of the names in the movie. Think they have been overwritten by the movie I saw Last night. Or did I?

Anyways.

Good movie, I recommend it, unless you don't like scenes with torture or implied torture.
Actually, no, I recommend even then.
Or do I?!

Kingdom of Heaven: Supplemental

Last Wednesday I saw Kingdom of Heaven.
I also had some cake.

Juice baked me a cake and brought it to the flick. They made us put it in the fridge.
The bastards.

I made Juice get some rootbeer.
So we watched the movie and discussed cake and how orlando bloom wasn't as annoying as he usually is.
This was do to his lack of talking, I came to realise.
The rootbeer was tasty.
The theatre was cold.

We left the theatre and picked up our cake.
The bastards.
We discussed what to do next.
I pointed out how there is a lovely rootbeer stain on her shirt.
That crazy Juice! What a waste of rootbeer.
We headed over to wal-mart. Helped some venezualens cross the street.
The girls ran into some friends. Our services were no longer required.
Job well done.

Juice got some clothes.
I watched some Ghostbusters.
We caught a cab, went to Smitty's.
We had some wings. She had a beer or 3 and I had a rootbeer.
The wings were alright.
Not great, not bad.

We left Smitty's and went to the bus shack across the street.
Why you ask?
Simple really.
We put on our bday hats, lit the candles and woooooooooo!
Par-Tay!

The people who went by on the bus as we were doing this were sooooo jealous.
So jealous.
And why shouldn't they be.

I had me some cake!

oh, and a friend who can make them.

Yah.
That's important too.
